Almost every student at LSU talks about that something special at LSU that really can’t be described in words. For new students, a fun way to discover what LSU students are talking about is to jump in to the S.T.R.I.P.E.S. program.

S.T.R.I.P.E.S. stands for student tigers rallying, interacting, and promoting education and service.

From the moment I got here, I mean, I just, I fell in love.

It’s taught me what it really means to be a tiger.

I’ve just met amazing people from everywhere.

It’s not only a great learning experience, but a great way to meet people and have a lot of fun.

It’s just a great experience; it gets you acquainted with like the school, and people.  And I’ve now made a bunch of friends who I would not have had.

I’ve gotten to know people before I actually have to go through the stress of college.

I’m ready.

The S.T.R.I.P.E.S. program is a great first year experience.

It’s a great transition process from high school to college.

S.T.R.I.P.E.S. is a four day, three night program for incoming freshmen or transfer students.

The first day they kind of learn about all those different uh services that are available to them.

They give them a taste of what life is like at college.  At LSU.  What it is like inside and outside of the classroom.

You learn so much at the same time having a blast.

It really is a once in a lifetime experience.

T-I-G-E-R-S, Tigers! [Students singing]

Woooooo!  Go S.T.R.I.P.E.S.!

[Students cheering]

Each session of S.T.R.I.P.E.S. probably has about 250 participants, but when you get there, you are immediately assigned to a small group.

And they have two small group leaders taking them around.

Your little small group will have the name of a very famous person or Mike the Tiger.

Um, and then ten of the groups are broken up in to a purple streak and ten of the groups are broken up into a gold streak.

It’s gold against purple and you, you’re really spirited in your own groups.  And have battles of cheers and stuff.

And the whole time you’re competing against each other, you get to learn about the campus, learn about our university.  It’s fun, interactive, and you meet a lot of people.

The fine institution of LSU needed new dormitories for their fine, young, outstanding students.

They get to know everything from the history to the traditions.

Singing the alma mater at the tower is probably one of the most favorite experiences at S.T.R.I.P.E.S.

We all come together and we link arms and we get to sing it.  And that was just the moment of transition from a high school student to an LSU tiger.

You learn so much at the same time having a blast.

I definitely believe that S.T.R.I.P.E.S. is worth it.

I learned a lot that you know, that I would have liked to have learned that I probably wouldn’t have learned otherwise.

I know where all my classes are now.

I definitely learned all the resources that LSU had to offer.

I didn’t know what S.T.R.I.P.E.S. was, so I figured, you know, out of state, I should do that, but even if for people that are in state from here, it’s just a better way to get involved.
